Where dogs walk
the Jordan River Parkway and Bingham Creek Regional Park

The western half of South Jordan includes the large master-planned community called Daybreak, built around a lake and parks. Some of those amenities are reserved for residents only, so ask your homeowners association what applies before planning a training outing. Neighborhoods like these bring tidy sidewalks, nearby neighbors and plenty of dogs. Door barking, jumping on guests and pulling past other dogs top the list of everyday goals.

About three and a half miles of the Jordan River Parkway pass through the city, along with fishing ponds and natural areas. Bingham Creek Regional Park covers around 65 acres, with a creek trail, playground and disc golf. Both give a dog plenty of sights and smells to ignore, which is the whole point of distraction practice. Start by walking along the edges at quiet hours and reward your dog for checking in with you.

The land here rises from roughly 4,300 feet near the river to about 5,200 feet at the foothills, so even a short drive changes the view and the temperature. In summer, early mornings are easiest on a dog, and winter snow adds slippery footing. Owners who want a plan tailored to their street often choose an in-home lesson, with general estimates of $100 to $200 per visit.
